It took a couple of days to re-stain and I had to get some help from my friends but it looks really good. Except for those dirty windows!
Here's a picture of the finished job. Isn't she pretty.

Living in my Ynez Tiny House at the edge of the Los Padres National Forest in Southern California, I've learned many things that can help others with the transition to tiny living. This blog will follow my struggle to balance modern life with my desire for simplicity as well as give helpful suggestions for those who have not yet made the leap to living smaller.
Nancy, it looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI just talked to Todd last night, to get started on my tiny home. Would you be willing to contact me to talk a little more about the process of getting through the design and build?
Thanks!
Warmly,
Jane

ReplyDeleteMe too, getting a cottage from OCC. Do you have any time to email? mschuiming at gmail dot com. Thanks in advance!
Hi Nancy! Just saw your home on the documentary "Tiny: A story about living small," and I live in SB too! I am leading Earth Club at San Marcos High School this coming fall and would love to get in touch just to hear your story and maybe find out some way we could present it to the club if you'd be interested. Could you email me when you get a chance? It'd be awesome to chat! :) caitlyn924 at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy,

Hi Valerie,
ReplyDeleteI look forward to talking to you today.
Hi Nancy,
ReplyDeleteI'm considering moving into a tiny house and Alysha of Life Beyond Loss recommended that I contact you. I currently live in Los Angeles and want to remain in Southern California. I wonder if you are available to talk with me about the area in which you live and if I could come out for a visit. You probably get requests like this all the time so I apologize in advance if this is tedious for you. Please let me know your thoughts. (I've read your whole blog - I love your lifestyle)
Thank you,
Maria
Hi Maria, I would love to talk with you. I am vacationing in Kona and will be home in a couple weeks. We can talk then.

Hi, Nancy! Scrolling through your blog and your tiny house just looks beautiful! You're in such a lovely location! Would you mind if I contacted you with some questions? My husband and I (newlyweds -yay!) live in Ventura County and are in the planning stages of a tiny house for ourselves We're so excited! Thank you in advance!

Sure anytime.
ReplyDeleteHello again, Nancy,
ReplyDeleteDo you have an email I could email you at? I suppose I could also leave my questions here. :)
One of my biggest questions is: did you ever have the opportunity to actually go inside a tiny house in person before you decided you wanted one? I am absolutely sold on the idea of living in a tiny house, but my husband says he thinks I don't realize how small they actually are because I've never been in one... So I am an attempting to find local tiny homes that I could visit in person, and it's pretty difficult! How did you go about this?
Thank you for your help!
Rowan

There were no tiny houses back then. So I used blue tape and drew out my house on the living room floor. I lived in the space for 6 months while I was down sizing. My goal was much different than what you see on tv now. I wanted the smallest house I could comfortably live in. What you see now are much larger with all the conveniences of a full sized home. To me this defeats the purpose.
ReplyDeleteThere are several tiny homes in the area. Most of us are living our lives and not having open houses every weekend. I have seen them around town on occasion (on Earth Day or at RV shows). If you are building it yourself you can sign up for a building class & get several connections that way. Or..be brave and trust in your decisions. After several years I still love my tiny house and only regret not going tiny years earlier. :)
